New Skateparks: September 2026
Pearl Jam's bassist makes skateparks on MT reservations. A memorial park for an OR skater who died at 23. And a NY park designed with a skater with a Guinness record. September's 7 new US skateparks.
Updated
September: towns and skaters who didn't give up. 7 new parks opened, plus two from August we owe you. Starting in Mosier.
Jacob's park
Skater Jacob Rogers never got to ride his skatepark. He was 23 when an undetected heart defect killed him in 2019, so his town of Mosier, Oregon spent the next five years building a park in his name.
A year after Jacob died, the former city engineer John Grim and Manny Rincon of Main Street Mosier came up with the plan to build a park in Jacob's memory. Dreamland Skateparks built the 7,000 square feet of concrete on an old railroad yard, and a state parks grant paid for it.
Even though a massive windstorm knocked down a white oak on the site mid-build, the crew still finished ahead of schedule. Jacob's Skatepark in Mosier, Oregon, held its grand opening on September 12, 2026.
If you're driving the Columbia River Gorge between Hood River and The Dalles, this one's worth a stop.
The Guinness World Record Skater
Meanwhile on Long Island, Chad Caruso, who set the Guinness World Record for the fastest skateboard crossing of the US, and then beat his own time in June 2026, came home to help design the concrete park that replaced the one he petitioned for as a teenager.
The old ramps never stood a chance against the salt air coming off the Great South Bay, but this time it's concrete. In Copiague, New York they cut the ribbon on September 23, 2026, for the rebuilt park at Tanner Park. Spohn Ranch designed it, and Laser Industries completed the $1.68 million job.
Chad Caruso, who petitioned the town for the original park with his friends, helped shape this one and was there to cut the ribbon. He'd just mobbed his second run across the country: Venice Beach to Jacksonville, Florida, in 39 days, skating 12 to 16 hours a day with no days off. Even more ridiculous: that cross-country skate was on a meniscus he'd re-torn two months before he left.
Montana isn't done dropping parks this year
In Montana, Pearl Jam bassist Jeff Ament's nonprofit opened a park on reservation land. And at the grand opening, a lot of the kids went home with free boards!
The skatepark sits on the Flathead Indian Reservation, home to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes.
The Montana Pool Service, a nonprofit by Pearl Jam's bassist Jeff Ament, drafted the design and Evergreen Skateparks poured it in a matter of weeks.
Hot Springs Skatepark held its first session in mid-September 2026.
More than 100 people came out, about half of them local kids, and a lot of them went home with a free board, helmet and pads from MPS, the tribal council and Girls on Shred. Ament called it maybe the best and most isolated project they've done in 15 years. The park's tech street features blend into the flow really well. Now there are six MPS parks on the Flathead Reservation, alongside Ronan, Agency, Pablo, Arlee and summer's Elmo.
Concrete comebacks
Community Park, in Davis, California, reopened September 18, 2026. Grindline tore out the at least 30 year old park, and rebuilt it from scratch. The $1.2 million project broke ground in March and took five months to build. City capital funds, park impact fees and money the local skaters raised paid for it. It's open daily from dawn to dusk, and the city and Grindline are still finishing the landscaping around it through November.
In Chillicothe, Ohio, the skate park at Yoctangee Park moved to a new spot near the Donald M. Smith Memorial Pool and reopened with a ribbon cutting on September 22, 2026. Mayor Luke Feeney even said that a whole summer without a park was a real disappointment. The new site even comes with a legal graffiti wall, paid for by a local police officer's fundraising push.
All around the map
Mechanicsville, Maryland: northern St. Mary's County finally has concrete art of its own. The county announced Chaptico Skatepark opened at Chaptico Park on September 17, 2026.
The more than 6,600 square feet was designed by Pillar Design Studios with the Southern Maryland Skateboard Association weighing in and built by Artisan Skateparks. Here you'll find ledges, manual pads, flat bars, stairs with handrails, a banked hip and a pump bump. It's free, open sunrise to sunset, and all wheels are welcome.
Danville, Kentucky: Spohn Ranch built the new Millennium Skatepark at Millennium Park. The park opened September 19, 2026 with demos from pros Chris "Cookie" Colbourn and Zach "Ducky" Kovacs and shop crews in from Lexington, Louisville and New Albany. The parks department's post about the opening passed 20,000 views in a few days, so expect company.
We missed a couple things last issue: on August 29, 2026, Lame Deer, on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation, opened another Montana Pool Service park. It's an Evergreen build with help from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation. Ament told KULR that with Lame Deer open, every reservation in Montana now has a world-class skatepark.
Cincinnati, Ohio: another one we owed you. Camp Washington Skatepark cut its ribbon on August 27, 2026, and it's the first public skatepark in the city proper. The Cincinnati Skatepark Project spent years on this, down to sending out hundreds of surveys to pick the site. Hunger Skateparks designed it Cincy first: a coney gap, a bowl painted with Cincinnati C's, rails and a funbox. Camp Washington Chili, the neighborhood's James Beard-winning chili parlor, handed out free coneys at the opening. If you're not from Cincy, a coney is a dog buried under chili, mustard, onions and a mound of shredded cheddar.
Breaking ground
Already rolling as this issue went out: New Line's park in Colfax, California held its grand opening October 3, 2026, after more than a decade of planning and fundraising, with McTwist inventor Mike McGill signing boards. Full story next issue.
Still coming: Portland says Evergreen's covered Creston Park build opens in October.
Grindline's final phase of ROC City in Rochester, New York is still pointed at October too.
California Skateparks has a 10,500-square-foot park going into Buchanan Park in Evergreen, Colorado, due this fall, and weather pushed its Chattanooga rebuild in Tennessee to December.
That's 7 openings and two we owed you, all on RampMap with builder credits. If your town's park isn't on the map, add it. See you in November with the full Colfax story and, if Portland holds to October, Creston.
